We all compare ourselves to others in some point of our lives – whether it’s looks, money, or our career. We base our own lives on others, and that results in judging ourselves. Why do we do this? I’m not any expert in this world of psychology, but it’s just natural.
I’m mainly directing this to your career and business. Why not look at your own work and try to make each piece better than the next, instead of trying to outdo another brand? It’s the only way your work will be unique and truly your style.
It is hard in this world of social media when EVERYTHING is visual, but if you just take a step back away from what’s out there, and work on what inspires you – outside of Pinterest – then you will be competing with yourself.
I do find myself doing this quite often, and I know I’m not alone. So how can we stop comparing ourself to others, and start competing with ourselves? I made a short list that might help you out some:
How to stop competing with others, and start to with yourself:
- Take a good look at the harmful effects that it has on your life. Why get all beat up and sad, when you have your own life to worry about and improve upon?
- We can all love and stand up for ourselves. Make sure you are aware of how successful you are, or what your accomplishments might be.
- Stop taking part in competitions. Does it really matter if you won a special prize? I mean during those few moments, yes it’s AWESOME! But a few years later, what’s really going to matter?
- The next time you find yourself comparing yourself to others, get away from the computer, and go outside for some fresh air. You can find inspiration elsewhere!
Comparison is a tendency in ourselves that we all face, but start competing with yourself to really improve! What about you, do you have another tip that keeps you to compete with yourself?
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these “Favorite Fours”, but it’s time to start bringing them back! I get lots of my design inspiration from things around me – whether that be fun fabrics or some shiny shoes – all things play a part in my overall designs.
These heart cookies are so cute, perfect for Valentine’s Day! I am horrible at pinning millions of cute desserts, and have yet to make even one. I’m not going to make a very good house wife :O
I’ve been thinking about my dreams a lot lately. Specifically, dreams for 2015. I really have a lot of things I plan to bring and plan to do, and I am making sure to not give up those dreams! I seriously can’t believe November is almost over, it’s like time is in fast forward. It makes it tough keeping up with work, it’s like there’s not enough time, you feel me? Look out 2015, I’m ready for you and certainly am not giving up!
Oh the favorite four, I’m loving this week’s favorite picks. Something about gold foil and soft colors I just love. But of course, Rifle Paper Co. is amazing as always with these little foiled notebooks. Great for jotting down daily notes, or even a long list of wedding notes.. and that wedding dress is gorgeous. I absolutely LOVE the back of it.
Hope you enjoy this week’s list of favorites!

Everything above is from the amazing site, Nasty Gal. I discovered this site maybe a year ago, and am in awe of it ever since. Some stuff is pretty darn pricy for me, but there are also many affordable items in the shop. I’ve purchased some things before, and just love! Such unique items you get.
It’s interesting that the things that are “in” are usually pretty out there, and different. I love that menswear is mixed in with women’s fashion so much, and bold prints and patterns really make a statement. While I’m no fashion expert, I sure do like some good choices. Hope you are obsessed!
